Compulsory earthquake insurance (TCIP, known locally as DASK) is a legal requirement for residential buildings within municipal boundaries. Provided through the Turkish Catastrophe Insurance Pool, it covers physical damage caused directly to the building by earthquake and by resulting fire, explosion, tsunami and landslide. A valid TCIP policy is also requested in processes such as title deed transactions and utility subscriptions.
TCIP cover is limited to the building and pays up to a set maximum limit, while contents and damage above this limit fall outside its scope. For this reason, it is advisable to consider your TCIP policy together with a home insurance policy that includes an earthquake extension. Declaring building details such as floor area and construction type accurately in the policy matters for the indemnity calculation in a claim.
Who is it for?
- Owners of residential property within municipal boundaries
- Those buying or selling a home and completing title deed transactions
